The Long Awaited Furious 7 Movie Premiere

Filed under: Movie Premieres — tuxedoauthor @ 12:16 pm

Furious 7 is the seventh movie in the Fast and the Furious series.  It picks up the story where The Fast and the Furious; Tokyo Drift (2006) ended (the four movies released between those took place between the original 2001 The Fast and the Furious and Tokyo Drift).  While some of the previous films have featured other characters, Furious 7 returns to follow Dominic Toretto as played by Vin Diesel.  Also returning from previous entries in the series are Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Eva Mendes, Ludacris, and, in his final film role, Paul Walker.

While the film’s stars are set to walk the red carpet on April 1 in LA for the film’s official premiere, producer Neal Moritz managed to get the film into the annual South By Southwest (SXSW) event at the last minute.  While most of the actors were not able to attend, Tyrese Gibson was there.  He was joined by Moritz, Chris Morgan (screenwriter), and James Wan (director) plus others of the movie’s creative team.

Gibson took to the stage wearing all black, including a black leather jacket.  While many stars would have gone with something more formal like a designer Calvin Klein Tuxedo, his more relaxed appearance was perfect for the festival.  In fact, the Furious 7 crew in attendance were dressed much like the fans, and many of them would have been difficult to pick out from the others in attendance at SXSW.

Fashion from the Film

That doesn’t mean they aren’t dressed to the nines in the movie.  While most people would think that a film about racing wouldn’t feature fancy clothing, the crew does trade in their everyday apparel for some gorgeous gowns and stylist fitted tuxedos in several scenes.

Vin Diesel, for example, wears a nice white laydown collar shirt and black suit jacket during a scene with co-star Rhoda Rousey.  While Diesel’s lack of tie makes his outfit a little more casual, Rousey wows in a sleeveless off-white dress.  Her intricate hairstyle and large earrings definitely tell the audience that her character knows how to dress.

The scenes that were filmed in Abu Dhabi contain the most high fashion.  While undercover, Michelle Rodriguez dons a gorgeous red gown with a long train.  This sleeveless number makes her really stand out next to the rest of the cast, who are mostly dressed in darker colors.

Nathalie Emmanuel, who appears in many of those scenes with Rodriguez, goes will a long black dress.  It’s simpler in design and it lacks a train, but she still looks great.  Both women wore heels that matched their dresses.

Tyrese also stands out in this scene thanks to his red bowtie, red cummerbund, and classic white dinner jacket.  He pairs these with a pair of standard black pants and black shoes.

The movie is set to open in box offices on April 3rd following its red carpet premiere on the 1st.  Many predict that the film will break box office records for a movie opening in April, and if the reaction of the SXSW crowd is any indication, it has a very good chance of doing so.

The Red Carpet Review Of the 2015 GLAAD Awards

On March 21, 2015, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) held its 26th annual media awards ceremony.  These awards honor TV shows, films, musicians, journalists, and others who have fairly portrayed LGBT individuals and the community overall.  This year, there were 144 different nominees across 31 categories.  The ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.  The winners, presenters, and attendees were, as you’d expect, dressed to the nines.  Here are a few of the fashion highlights of the evening.

The 2015 Vanguard Winner – Kerry Washington

Presenter Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi made a splash on the red carpet.  DeGeneres wore a classic black tuxedo jacket that she paired with a dark blue shirt.  But while the talk show host certainly looked good, all eyes were on De Rossi and her backless black gown that was almost see-through in places.  It had a slit up to her thigh and a long train.  Later in the evening, DeGeneres presented the Vanguard Award to De Rossi’s Scandal co-star Kerry Washington for her work in promoting equal rights for all.

Washington, of course, looked incredible in her two-tone gown by Hellessy.  The red top, which left her arms bare and had a plunging neckline that reached down to her waist, was complimented by the dark purple of the skirt.  But most people will remember what she had to say during her speech.  Instead of simply saying thanks, she spent her time on stage talking about representation in the media, showing exactly why she was receiving such an important award.

Brad Goreski, star of the Fashion Police, continued his tradition of wearing a very different type of outfit.  In this past, he’s walked the red carpet in bright yellow and, later, a multicolored plaid.  This year, though, he went with a simple brown jacket, white slim fit tuxedo shirt, and black tie that, on their own, would have been very unremarkable.  But then he added butterflies all over his suit jacket and pants.  He definitely drew attention!

Zoe Saldana, star of Avatar, Star Trek, and Guardians of the Galaxy, wore a form-fitting red number with a pleated-hem skirt.  The dress featured cap sleeves that left most of her arms bare.  She paired the frock with a pair of bright red heels that matched perfectly.

Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan both looked great in black.  She wore a short black skirt and a semi-sheer black top, while he chose a black slim flit tuxedo with a white shirt and black tie.  He wore traditional black tuxedo shoes, but she went with a pair of strapped sandals that left more of her foot bare.

Finally, there’s Samira Wiley.  It’s hard to find anyone from the GLAAD awards who could follow her look.   The actress currently appears in Orange is the New Black, but her color of choice for this event was a dark purple.  The long gown featured a slit up one side, letting her show off her intricate sandals.

GLAAD will host its next awards ceremony on May 9 in New York.

Red Carpet Fashions from the Roast of Justin Bieber

On Saturday, March 14, Justin Bieber got his Comedy Central roast.  The event was actually something Bieber asked for, and it was held in honor of his 21st birthday (although it was a late gift since his birthday was March 1).  Kevin Hart served as the roastmaster.  Celebrities who took turns roasting Beiber included Hannibal Buress, Martha Stewart, Jeffrey Ross, Snoop (Dogg) Lion, Ludacris, Chris D’Elia, Shaquille O’Neal, Pete Davidson, and Natasha Leggero.  In addition to getting in their digs on the young singer, celebrities took the opportunity to show off the latest additions to their wardrobes.

How Justin Bieber Set the Stage

All eyes were on the Biebs, of course, and some probably expected to see him in saggy pants and a T-shirt.  But he selected a tailored blue suit, a nice white collar non-pleated tuxedo shirt, and a simple black tie for the occasion.  Some commentators felt he was a little too reserved in his outfit, especially since it so closely matched the stage background.  He did add a splash of color with his pink and red striped socks, though.  While some celebrities haven’t always seemed to enjoy their roast, Bieber laughed and smiled during many of the jokes.  He even returned a few during his speech at the end, which many describe as surprisingly heartfelt.

While Bieber’s outfit was subdued, Snoop Lion (as the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg is now going by), mixed skinny jeans with a shirt that featured a printed design on the sleeves.  He topped it off with a grey checkered bowtie, necklace, and a pair of black Chuck Taylors.  It may not have been black tie, but it was unique.

Other Comedians Caught People’s Attention, Too

Actress/comedian Natasha Leggero chose a cute, knee-length rose gold sleeveless dress for the occasion.  The shiny fabric caught the light, and her shoes perfectly matched the dress.  She added a few simple bracelets to complete her look.

Comedian Fortune Feimster continued the tradition of women looking amazing in suits with her silver tuxedo jacket, black shirt, and black tie.  She wasn’t on the stage this time around, but she certainly enjoyed her time in the audience, sending out several Tweets about the event.

Kevin Hart got in his own digs on Bieber while introducing the other roasters and making sure the roast didn’t get too out of hand.  He did so while wearing all black – black jacket, shirt, pants, shoes… everything.  But the fact that it was all tailored and fit perfectly made it look great, of course.

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal had a great time on stage, laughing at many of the jokes and taking his own time in making fun of the guest of honor.  He wore a pair of black formal tuxedo pants, white shirt, and a black jacket with white spots all over it.  He topped it off with a black tie that had white stripes in it.

The Roast of Justin Bieber will air on March 30, 2015, on Comedy Central.
