The only thing better than a man who can make you laugh, is a man who can make you laugh, and looks good doing it. A perfect example would be Will Ferrell: the ultimate funny-guy who cleans up better than most. While he may sport a variety of different looks and costumes in his numerous hit movies, when he walks down the red carpet on award night or at a movie premiere, he’s sure to turn heads. Stick with us as we look at different tips we can draw from Will Ferrell’s formal wear.
2013 MTV Europe Music Awards
This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, held on November 10, 2013, in Amsterdam, was filled with well-known American stars. Among those in attendance were Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Iggy Azelea, and of course, Will Ferrell! However, Will looked a little different this year… he went dressed as Ron Burgundy, the main character of the beloved comedy movie Anchorman. That means that he not only wore a stunning fake mustache, but he donned Ron Burgundy’s signature three-piece red suit. While red formal wear may not be your first fashion pick, there is an important tip that we can take away from this: be bold in your formal wear choices. Why not break out a colored tuxedo the next time you have a formal event to go to? If that’s too big of a leap to make, try out a red tuxedo jacket to get used to the idea.
2011 Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor
At the 14th Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor held in Washington, DC, Will Ferrell was the honoree – and he looked the part. Dressed to impress, Ferrell donned a dark blue tuxedo to receive his award with a matching dark blue bow tie. What does this tell us? Not only can you stray away from traditional black formal wear, but if the occasion is right, feel free to experiment with different materials. A velvet tuxedo or a velvet dinner jacket is sure to impress in a formal setting, so don’t be shy. Will Ferrell has shown us that it can be done well if worn confidently.
2013 MTV Movie Awards
The MTV Movie Awards are always a good time, and stars tend to dress more casually than they would at other award shows. However, Will Ferrell went in the opposite direction with his outrageous suit. His ensemble included a suit with an all-over print of one hundred dollar bills, a black and white patterned tie, a gold tie clip, and sunglasses. While this may seem eccentric (and it is!), we can still take some style advice away from this look: once again, be bold! If you’re feeling adventurous, go for it: wear the camouflage tuxedo sitting in the back of your closet. However, if you do, it might be a good idea to make sure that you’re as funny as Will Ferrell first!
