Cummerbunds have been a staple of men’s formal attire since Pierre Lorillard invented the modern day tuxedo in the late 1800’s. A cummerbund is a pleated sash (or waistband) that goes around a man’s waist. The pleats of the cummerbund should always face up. This can be traced back to a time when men kept their theatre tickets in the pleats instead of their pockets.
As you can see below, our cummerbunds are available in many colors, all which can be matched with a bow tie and/or pocket square. The standard size fits up to a size 48 waist, however, you can add an “extender” that will fit up to a 64 waist. We also carry satin and silk cummerbund & bow tie sets in a variety of patterns.
