|Frequently Asked Questions|
Do you have any advice on taking correct measurements?
Taking measurements is not as difficult as you may think. You can view our measurement guide for help. That said, tuxedo measurements are no different than that of any other mens' suit. We suggest that you try on a suit that fits you well, and place your order using those measurements.
Just as a guide, there is usually a 6" difference between the average mans' chest and waist (i.e. a 42 chest or jacket will usually have a 36 waist). If you have any other questions regarding measurements, please feel free to give us a call.
How do I know if I am a Short, Regular, Long, or Extra Long?
5’4” to 5’7” = Short
5’7 ½” to 5’11” = Regular
5’11 ½” to 6’2 ½” = Long
6’3” + Up = Extra Long
Please note that this table is only a guide. For example, quite often a gentleman will be 6’ tall, and feel more comfortable with a Regular. Always wear what you are most comfortable in.
What style of lapel is most popular?
There are three major lapel styles; notch, shawl, and peak (you may also notice some other “fashion forward” styles on our site like mandarin collar tuxedos). The notch lapel is by far the most popular. Many designers only offer their styles with a notch lapel. However, any of these styles are perfectly acceptable to any formal affair.

What is the difference between "adjustable" and "non-adjustable" trousers?
Since a belt is not worn with a tuxedo, you will find that most tuxedos trousers are manufactured with an adjustable waist. The adjustable waist trouser allows you to loosen or tighten the waist 1-3 inches. The benefit of the adjustable waist is not having to go to a tailor to take in or let out the waist.
You will notice that many of the better designers choose to manufacture their trousers with inside buttons for formal suspenders, rather than an adjustable waist.
Do I hem or cuff my trousers?
The trousers that you will receive from Fine Tuxedos will be delivered unfinished (unhemmed). Tuxedo trousers should never be tailored with a cuff, they should always have a straight hem.
What does "Black Tie" mean when indicated on an invitation?
"Black Tie" on an invitation is an indication that it will be a formal event (tuxedo required). Today, however, black tie does not mean that you have to specifically wear a black tie. Many colors and styles are acceptable.
How do you tie a bow tie?
FineTuxedos offers pre-tied and self tie bow ties. If you ordered a self tie bow tie, please click here for directions on how to tie a bow tie.
Does Fine Tuxedos Offer Coupons and Promo Codes?
There are no "Fine Tuxedo Discount Code" offers available. Our pricing on quality tuxes is already lower than the competition and we want to give you the best prices without the need to spend time searching the web for discounts that are already built into our pricing.
