The start of the New Year is always cold and dreary but there is a bright spot for fans of men’s formal wear. Awards season is officially underway with the release of the Oscar nominations and the recent conclusion of the Golden Globes Awards, giving a national platform for many stars to showcase different types of formal wear and
designer outfits. The next installment on this journey will be the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will be broadcast this Sunday, January 27
th at 8pm. An event which recognizes actors nominated by fellow actors, the show honors some of the best performances from singular artists and their ensembles that appeared in film and television from the past year. Although the
special event is a few days away, there are a few stars to keep an eye on who already are making waves on the red carpet.
Daniel Day Lewis – Lincoln
Nominee: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Known as one of the most selective actors in the industry, Daniel Day-Lewis always commits highly to his roles, bringing a fully formed and realistic character to the silver screen. For this year, the Irish thespian is nominated for playing one of our nation’s greatest Presidents. At the
Golden Globes, he was dressed in a timeless
tux with a shawl lapel. With a reputation for only picking historical roles, we can expect the same from his wardrobe – this classic and simplistic style should make another appearance this Sunday.

Bradley Cooper – The Silver Linings Playbook
Nominee: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Leader of the Hangover wolfpack and People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive surprised audiences this year as Pat Solitano, a bipolar former teacher struggling to readjust to life with his family. Despite his loss at the Globes, Bradley continued the trend of simplicity for
men’s formal wear. Wearing a
peak lapel streamlined jacket that fits his height perfectly during the Golden Globes, we foresee Bradley sporting a similar look on Sunday’s SAG Awards, but could add a bit more color to help him stand out better among his peers.

Hugh Jackman – Les Miserables
Nominee: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Rounding out three of the most notable and fashionable contenders in this category would be Hugh Jackman. The Aussie, known for pulling off a range of macho and whimsical roles with critical acclaim, gets recognition for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. Winning the Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Jackman wore a
tuxedo with peak lapel and showcased an essential black tie rule – attitude and charisma can pull the whole thing off. Jackman rarely makes mistakes with his wardrobe so expect something similar when he makes his appearance this Sunday.

The trend of wearing classic and simple tuxedos would always be followed by men when it comes to celebrity formal wear. With the compliments these actors receive, expect it to continue but always remember that attitude and personality can complete the look regardless of all the frills!
