The Red Carpet Premiere of "Unbroken' and One Well-Dressed Family

Unbroken, the war drama based on a nonfiction book by author Laura Hillenbrand, had its Los Angeles premiere at the Dolby Theater on December 15, 2014. The movie follows WWII hero Louis Zamperini, played by Jack O’Connell, as he survives after a plane crash and then spends over two years in a Japanese POW camp. While O’Connell plays the main character, it’s the director who is getting most of the attention: Unbroken will be Angelina Jolie’s second time to direct a feature film following 2011’s In The Land of Blood and Honey.
Sadly, Jolie was unable to attend the red carpet premiere of her newest film. While she wasn’t in attendance due to coming down with a case of the chicken pox, her now-official husband (they married in August) attended with three of their six children: Pax, Shiloh, and Maddox. Pitt’s parents, Jane and Bill Pitt, also attended the premiere.
The Jolie-Pitt clan was looking particularly dapper. The three children all wore black jackets and pants, while Brad Pitt wore a plain black shirt with a black blazer. While Pitt wasn’t as dressed up as the rest of his family, his casual look worked well for him.
Maddox, the oldest of the three in attendance, appeared much older than his 13 years thanks to his handsome formal suit. He went for a traditional look, with a white shirt and black tie. Eleven-year-old Pax decided to go with a black shirt and black tie to match his dad. He looked very professional and comfortable while shining on the red carpet. But it was Jolie and Pitt’s daughter Shiloh (prefers to be called John), who stole the spotlight. Her decision to wear a suit, and style her hair short attracted all kinds of media attention, not all of it pleasant. Pitt had made it known back in 2008 that Shiloh wished to go by the name John and be treated as a boy, and her parents have been very supportive of that. Shiloh wore a white button up shirt and a black tie that matched Maddox’s outfit.
Pitt’s parents enjoyed the premiere as well. Jane Pitt wore a sparkly black top that accented her silver jewelry. She may have felt a bit short standing next to Maddox, who is actually a little taller than his grandmother now when she doesn’t wear heels. Bill Pitt wore grey pants and a black jacket over a white shirt. He completed his look with a dark colored tie with gold stripes in it. Both looked great and appeared very relaxed on the red carpet.
Early reviews of the film have been fairly positive, and it has already won a few awards. Jolie herself has been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Director. Moviegoers can see Unbroken when it hits theaters on Christmas Day.
