Being a groomsman for a friend's wedding is a huge honor. Having someone wanting you to be an essential part of their big day says a lot about how important you are to them. That being said, you want to make sure you do everything you can, to do the part justice. This includes not only helping out occasionally and throwing an amazing bachelor party, but also looking the part. Sure, you may think that all you need is a nice outfit, but some items may make the difference between being a class act and a class clown.

When you start looking into what you will need to buy, there are a few things you should know. For one thing, there are some items that you won’t be able to choose for yourself if you're in the wedding party. For example, you often cannot choose whether or not you will be wearing a bowtie or a necktie. You will likely need to match the other groomsmen for aesthetic purposes. Moreover, there is a good chance you won’t be picking out the color either. Now, it isn’t always the case, but occasionally the bride is looking for your vest and tie to match her bridesmaid’s gowns. For you, red may be red, but to the bride their dresses aren’t red, they are burgundy. There is an array of colors to choose from, and your responsibility is to make the future husband and wife happy - and you know what they say - a happy bride makes for a happy groom. It’s an important lesson to learn early on, before your own big day comes. Your saving grace, is that any bride will happily tell you exactly what you need.

Moving on, here's something you can choose for yourself, a pair of classy and comfortable tuxedo shoes is something essential to a groomsman's attire. Not only do you want to look good, you also want to make sure that your feet won’t be aching halfway through the wedding. Remember, you will be standing beside the groom  for a good amount of time. Depending on the type of ceremony, you could be up there anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour. After that, you have the rest of the day, including the reception, in those bad boys. Unlike the girls who can happily remove their heels after the first few dances, it is less acceptable for men to do the same. Don’t turn down that cute second cousin of the bride, just  because of painful footwear. It may be beneficial for you to purchase some gel inserts as well.

Finally something that may seem obvious but is very important is your shirt. Having a clean and crisp white tuxedo shirt will complete your look. You don’t want to be dressed up nicely, only to have a drab graying shirt under your tuxedo. I’m sure the bride won’t thank you for looking like a slob in her $500 wedding photos. Also, make sure it's ironed properly, even if you have to stoop to asking for help.

Make sure you show the groom that you genuinely appreciate being chosen for the wedding party, by appropriately looking the part. After you get all of this together, the only thing you really have to worry about is enjoying the festivities.
