There is something about wearing the color red that makes people instantly drawn to you, like a moth to a flame. Generally speaking though, women are the ones who drape themselves in red dresses while men stick to the classic black and white tuxedo. While there is nothing wrong with being traditional, it does tend to be a tad boring seeing 50 black and white tuxes in a row. Yet there are a few daredevils among the pack who like to wear the inverse, white on black, or the really daring white on white.
However, color is a good thing. Colors are linked to our subconscious, and each color reacts with a different part of our brain. Blue, the polar opposite of red, is perceived to us as tranquil and calm, while purple is conveyed as luxurious. Pink makes us crave sweets, while black is makes us feel powerful. The whole concept behind a black and white tuxedo, psychologically, is a mixture between power and control, with vibes of innocence and purity. Men want to be dominate, but at the same time, want to be soft and lovable.
LeBron James, Miami Heats powerful forward and MVP, turned heads at the ESPYs in his all red tuxedo. Bringing home 3 trophies, one of which being male athlete of the year, James cleaned up very well while still supporting his team's color. Seeing him in all red was a nice twist to the black on white craze. Hopefully this will inspire others to follow his lead, since many members of the male population idolize him.
But why is standing out a good thing? Well, it attracts the attention of everyone else around you, making you the center of attention. Although attention is usually given to the females at an event, it is possible for a man to turn heads.
So don't be afraid to wear colors, and to embrace the vibrancy and the psychological meanings behind it. Women shouldn't be the only ones to rock the fashion trends! Break out of the traditional routine of black and white, and be different and original instead.
