On October 19, 2014, comedian and former talk show host Jay Leno was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Celebrities filled the Kennedy Center in Washington to pay tribute to the comedic icon. While the show will be broadcast across the country on November 23rd, let’s take a look at what some of the biggest stars in Hollywood wore to celebrate Jay’s achievements.
Jay Leno
As the guest of honor, the former “Tonight Show” host arrived at the Kennedy Center in a classic and sophisticated ensemble. Jay wore a black tuxedo with a
white pleated shirt and black tie. The look was a far contrast from Jay’s typical wardrobe, and he was ribbed at the award show for his penchant for often wearing a denim-on-denim “Canadian tuxedo.”
Jimmy Fallon
After taking over on Jay’s “Tonight Show” duties, it is no surprise that comedian
Jimmy Fallon was also in attendance. Jimmy also donned a black jacket and
tuxedo pants, and he chose a pressed white dress shirt. Accompanying the tux, Jimmy sported a skinny, slate gray tie. Jimmy’s suit was impeccably tailored, and the look can easily be recreated with a fitted tux.
Jerry Seinfeld
Veteran comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who has been friends with Jay for 38 years, took a detour away from classic black when he prepared himself for the Mark Twain Awards. Instead, Jerry wore a dark blue tux with a white dress shirt and blue-gray tie. His look is sophisticated and perfect for the occasion while also being unique.
J.B. Smoove
Stand-up comedian and actor J.B. Smoove detoured from the traditional black-on-black tuxes with his Mark Twain Awards ensemble. While he did wear a black tux, he chose a wilder, red and blue paisley print tie and bright red pocket square as accessories. The red accents complemented the fire engine red dress worn by his date, wife Shahidah Omar.
Wanda Sykes
Female comedian Wanda Sykes rocked a menswear inspired outfit on the Mark Twain Awards red carpet, proving that the style of
men’s tuxedos isn’t always reserved for the guys. Wanda wore
black tuxedo pants with a matching jacket over a low-cut black shirt. Her wife Alex also chose a pantsuit, but both women gave their looks a feminine touch by wearing heels or heeled sandals.
Ross Matthews
Comedian and “Chelsea Handler Show” regular Ross Matthews brought his “A” game to the Mark Twain Awards red carpet by forgoing the popular straight tie for a bow tie. The black bow matched his perfectly tailored black tux, giving him an edge on the competition when it comes to a sophisticated award show look.
Seth Meyers
Former “SNL” cast member Seth Meyers also chose the standard black tux for his Mark Twain Awards ensemble. Dressed in a fitted tux and white shirt, Seth accessorized with a long black tie. His black ensemble perfectly coordinated him with his wife, as she wore a floor-length, black satin dress.
