Tuxedos That Pop: Colorful Formal Wear
As the world turns, countless socialites relish in the idea of attending formal gatherings.
Whether it be a wedding, prom, quinceanera, opera, or even a cruise, the entire notion of dressing up and looking like royalty for an evening is utterly tantalizing.

Now, as these very same socialites evolve, as do formal wear trends. This often results in many bold statements being made by individuals, sporting not only progressive but also offbeat takes on your standard “black tie” attire. Men who happen to make bold fashion decisions are always treading in dangerous waters, but just how deep does the river run? More specifically, when is an unconventional tuxedo truly appropriate?
We all saw our fellow classmates sport goofy, oversized, and brightly colored prom tuxedos to please and match their prom dates. But how can we, as sensible men, now pull off a tux that pops without reliving our past fashion faux pas?
One answer lies within the subtlety of bright colors and exhilarating tones. For instance, Mandarin tuxedos often come with “safe” dark tones for the jacket, pants and tuxedo shirt. These plain hues are then contrasted by sporting rich colors such as hot pink or scarlet red for the tie, vest, or cummerbund. By wearing a relaxed, single breasted tuxedo jacket, this type of style can say it all at a mere whisper.

However, there are instances and occasions when “safe,” darker colors may not be enough to mask the bright colors many men would not touch with a 10-foot pole. If one does not wish to sport such vibrant apparel, they may be interested in trying on a more contemporary look.
Slim fit tuxedos, skinny ties and a tasteful contrast of two to three shades of strong colors are all you need to look like you hopped right out of a Kettle One commercial. Many modern tuxedos will use brighter tones in their slim jackets and pair this with black notch lapels, black pocket trim, and black buttons, which will all be made of light material, mostly satin. This can securely be paired with a white shirt and black tuxedo trousers to avoid any immense fashion blunder.

Now, if over the top is the name of your game, perhaps you would feel more natural just going all bright and all bold. A popular choice for many adventurous fellows is the all-white tuxedo. It is a rare breed of man who can naturally pull this off as build, height, and complexion come into consideration.

As noticeable as they are, white tuxedos can be quite common in a room full of gentlemen. This makes it important for your pearly tuxedo to stand out among the rest! Many designers accomplish this feat by using colorful lapels, ties and matching pocket lining to distinguish their tuxes among the crowd and also give some distinction to the different pieces that make up the outfit.
Now if all these choices just aren’t giving you the true “pop” you desire, then you can go the Dumb and Dumber route and invest in a single colored, ruffled tuxedo with matching top hat and cane! This route, however, must be taken with utter confidence and astounding personality.

No matter how you intend on making men’s formal wear pop, the number one rule is to be true to your own style. Most men do not even stop to think that there are any colors outside of traditional “black tie”, (other than maybe midnight blue), but this will simply not satisfy your quench for color! Whichever route one does decide to take, they should be sure not to out-dress the host of any fancy soiree, as you do not want them asking “who invited the colorful guy?”
